SPIRIT OF THE BOOK

A great, invisible shroud of numerological information threads its way through this book, page by page, like a thread woven through a carpet, giving it a special, intensely concentrated energy.

This special power is then intensified by the energy of the Camino itself, which has been charged over more than a thousand years by millions of travellers, making the book into a source of energy.

THE MAGICAL BOOK OF NUMBERS

16In the book Esperanza Santiago, the principles of numerology have been deliberately included in many places.
The personal life path numbers of the author, for example, can be found in the book’s 37×25 cm format, the number of pages (196, a multiple of 7), in certain layouts, sizes and spacing, as well as percentages and settings in the image processing and printing. Even the length of the ribbon bookmark has a spiritual significance.

Numbers have had cultural and religious significance for thousands of years. In this context, numerology is one of the oldest sciences to concern itself with the study of numbers.
Since approximately 2000 B.C. numerology (originally included in the discipline of astrology) has dealt with the study of numbers derived from an individual’s name and date of birth which, when studied according to mathematical schema, can reflect that person’s essence and inner state. These individual combinations of letters and numbers reveal your personal life path and character.

Astrological statements can be strengthened through the teachings of numerology, as each number is assigned to a celestial body, meaning that certain vibrations affect people, their relationships, their day-to-day lives and the entire Universe.

These vibrations are responsible for keeping us perfectly in tune with our physical existence and our cosmic destiny, and they influence our every movement.

We humans act mostly at the unconscious level. So which signals should we heed? Secret, unconscious messages accompany us every day and affect our lives.

For the author Guido Lenssen, there is no such thing as coincidence – everything has meaning, and everything has an explanation.
For years previously, the study of numerology had provided him with meaningful clues as to his fate and his destiny.
According to numerology’s mathematical calculations, the author’s life path number is the number 1. This is the sum of the digits 3 and 7 = 10 = 1. Taking into account the arrangement of the letters in his name, the results for his heart’s desire number and his destiny number are also 1, a very rare match.

Although he undertook his pilgrimage in 2007, it was long after his return that the impression made on him by this most significant of journeys convinced him that he should not keep his photos and his thoughts to himself. He felt that he could achieve something really special with his personal experience. A medium that would offer hope to others, that would provide them with escape through images and text – that would show others how to share what you have inside you.

When Guido Lenssen finally decided to write a book about his personal Camino, he began to come across references to his life path numbers with amazing frequency.
His journey began on 03.07.2007. His pilgrimage lasted exactly 37 days. His “pilgrims’ passport”, requested weeks before the beginning of his journey to Santiago, had the number 1173/07. And many more examples… Coincidence?
Guido Lenssen knows what this is saying to him: you are on the right path.

During the creation and production of the book, these numbers became a law unto themselves, occurring ever more frequently.

Creating and finishing the book took seven years. It is no coincidence that the principles of numerology also independently manifested themselves here. The book lay in a drawer, layout and text complete, waiting to be produced, but the author’s personal circumstances kept throwing up obstacles which stopped him from completing the project at an earlier date. It should have been finished in 2013, but production was unexpectedly delayed, and so, as if decided by the book itself, the year 2014 = 7.

On 03.07.2014, exactly seven years after the beginning of the author’s journey, the www.esperanza-santiago.com website went online, and the “glorious 7” were each sent a copy of the book in a specially-made leather bag.

THE BOOK OF SIGNS

8_174“The Camino is two things: You yourself, and the yellow arrows that stand as a symbol of your personal goal, and above all as a symbol of your hope.

Suddenly, you see the yellow arrows not just as route markers, but with a fresh outlook, you recognise a symbol which accompanies you on your path through everyday life and follows you, smiling and full of trust.”

The book ESPERANZA SANTIAGO has taken the symbolism of the yellow arrows and placed it in the foreground. Each double page has a yellow arrow to indicate the text to the reader.
For the author, the yellow arrows have far more significance than mere pilgrim’s signposts. They represent hope, and hope is the companion of each and every pilgrim, and indeed of each and every individual who is walking along their personal life path and passionately hoping that they will one day reach their own destination.
Thinking about the Camino de Santiago, you can only imagine how many people these yellow arrows have helped along their way, and how many people have thus been spared an arduous, pointless wrong turning. Imagine how much energy resides in one of these yellow arrows, how many travellers have searched them out with their eyes, when you take into account that at least 600 pilgrims arrive in Santiago every day.

Don Elias Valiña Sampedro (2.2.1929 -11.12.1989) was firstly a Galician parish priest, but also a visionary of the “modern” Way of St. James pilgrimage along the Camino Francés. The yellow arrows which today show the path to Santiago de Compostela can be traced back to him. Don Elias Valiña Sampedro worked on the resurrection of the historic Way of St. James in northern Spain. In the 1980s he marked the route anew along large stretches of the Camino.

Throughout the history of the Camino, the symbol of the arrow has established itself among pilgrims. Along its length you can see signs left for pilgrims by other pilgrims… for example arrows made out of sticks and stones.

Look, and take note of the signs. Be courageous, yet listen to your instincts, and above all to your own heart. It doesn’t matter how beautiful the Camino is, if you encounter a yellow cross, then you are on the wrong path and will never reach your destination.

In this magical book of numbers and symbols, absolutely nothing was left to chance. Thus even the bookmark ribbon was given a symbolic significance – the colour yellow was chosen to help “guide” you through the book’s pages, and its length also has numerological significance.

THE BOOK OF TRANSCENDENTAL FORCES

11_fotoliaESPERANZA SANTIAGO, a book that you don’t have to read to understand, possesses the invisible gift of bringing people good fortune, giving them hope, and giving them strength to continue along their own personal life path.
A book with a source of energy you can draw strength from, that simply exists to give complete expression to its power.

ESPERANZA SANTIAGO was completed in a spiritual environment. Not just in the contemplative atmosphere created by playing Spanish folk music from the Middle Ages, which is constantly heard in Santiago de Compostela: incense, stones collected from the Camino, candlelight and the life stream of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela on-screen also transmitted the centuries-old energy from millions of pilgrims to the book’s contents.

The stones the author collected on the Camino Francés, the very same shell he wore on his pilgrim’s rucksack, and the medallions and souvenirs he collected from churches and cathedrals during his 2007 pilgrimage were also his constant companions as he created the book. Lying on his writing desk or his computer, nestling in his trouser pocket on the way to the printers, or hung on the printing press – they provided positive energy and a link with Santiago. Fragments of the Way of St. James, not just to be seen as the author’s personal souvenirs, but as a symbol of the spiritual strength that runs through the book like a magic thread, capturing the reader, drawing him in and enchanting him.

THE BOOK AS A POWER SPOT

9_189Just as the city of SANTIAGO emits energy and an unbelievable magical strength, the book ESPERANZA SANTIAGO can have a magical psychic effect in a personal setting, acting as a source of strength, or encouraging tranquillity and meditation. It can have a calming, invigorating or mid-expanding effect. A light that brightens up the room, radiating sunshine and a feeling of security. Like a breeze that freshens your days and breathes tranquillity.

ESPERANZA SANTIAGO – the magical book.
For each reader, this book will unfold a personal significance. If they let it.
You don’t need a particular religious belief, creed, or world view to understand ESPERANZA SANTIAGO. You can feel it, without reading, without thinking.
Many people have a special place in their lives, in their own private spaces where they go to relax, where they feel a particular energy, where they can gather strength. In shamanism, these places are called “power spots”. They are adorned with small accessories with personal meaning, such as stones, Buddhas, feathers, and keepsakes of people who are important to you. A place of retreat and inner peace, similar to a shrine, altar or temple. As the focus of a shrine like this, ESPERANZA SANTIAGO will amplify the precious energy of such accessories.

THE BOOK ON THE WAY OF ST. JAMES

5_127Writing the book Esperanza Santiago as a result of a personal pilgrimage experience was originally not planned. First of all, it sprang up in the heart of the author, then in his thoughts, until finally it found its definitive purpose, set down in a book for the general public. Thus it came into being on the Way of St. James. That it would also be written and produced on the Way of St. James was impossible to foresee. But in 2013 the Jakobus Gesellschaft Rheinand-Pfalz (Rheinland-Pfalz St. James Association) revived the long-forgotten medieval stages from Cologne to Bonn via Wesseling, and solemnly inaugurated the rediscovered stretches. The centuries-old Way of St. James thus passes directly through Wesseling am Rhein.

There are no coincidences.
A pilgrimage has eventually come to an end. You have arrived. You have reached your destination. Santiago is merely a geographical destination, and lies in Spain. Many paths lead to it. The Way of St. James casts itself over the whole world like a net, and unites all paths in Santiago de Compostela.

Until this point, Guido Lenssen did not realise that for over 20 years, he had been living, in the house of his Lammerich ancestors, right on the path of the Way of St. James. Coincidence?

In honour of the Lammerich family, the newly-founded publishing house responsible for ESPERANZA SANTIAGO was named after them, and the “MEMORANDOM” memorial was set up for them.
